How to use Western Union in Buenos Aires
If you are traveling to Argentina, you probably know that the exchange rate can be tricky. Western Union is currently one of the best ways to get cash at a rate very close to the "Blue" (unofficial) rate, which is much more favorable than the official rate.
Step-by-step Guide
- Download the App: Get the Western Union app and link it to your home bank account or debit card.
- Send Money to Yourself: Start a transfer. You will be the sender and the receiver. Choose Argentina as the destination and select "Cash Pickup".
- Find a Branch: Once the transfer is ready, go to a local Western Union branch (Pago Fácil locations often have them). Go early, as they sometimes run out of cash.
- Bring your Passport: You MUST present your original physical passport to pick up the cash. A copy will not work.
Pro tip: Try to send larger amounts to minimize the transfer fees, but be prepared to carry a large stack of bills!
